Description

The Big Green Mean Monster

Abstract

Greene County, Alabama
My name is John. I live on a farm in Green County where the population is only 2,000. Anyways, I am in the 9th grade at our high school. I got home from school at 3:30 pm and went inside where I met my dad, Adam. When he asked me if I would cut his giant tree down, I asked him why. He said because it will fall on the barn if you do not, but I did not have time because it was too dark. The next day at school I asked my friends to come and help me move the cows on horseback from the barn so we could cut the tree. We needed to get the animals out of the barn in case the tree fell the wrong way. We moved the cows and got our saws. After much work, we finally cut the tree and sawed it up.
While we were putting the wood in the barn, we noticed that one of the pieces had something sticking out. We showed it to my dad, and he said do not open it! He said to throw it away immediately. Well, we did not do that. Could it really be that bad? We opened it and found a jar. Although we did not open the jar right away, we did notice it turned green. We left the jar in the barn that night. We came back several days later with our other friends and decided to open the jar. My dad told me if I opened it, I needed to read the book under my bed. What could this mean? I opened the jar and suddenly this giant monster came out. It was as green as a lime. It was as hairy as a bear. It was also very scary and looked dangerous. We all ran into the house, locked the door, and ran upstairs to my room to find the book. We found the book and opened it, but it was blank. Finally, after flipping through the pages, we found one paragraph which said, "Find at sunset and all will go back. It will destroy.n My dad had just got home from work. The monster seemed to lurk around. I did not know what to do. I did not want it to hurt my dad. When I looked up, the monster was gone. We ran to the barn and in the back of the barn, we saw the monster growing. It began eating our entire town. It began walking over people's homes. I looked in the book again and found all the pages full of writing this time. The first page said read page 43.
So, I read page 43. It said, "Find it at sundown. Then vacuum it, put it back in the jar and bury it. Where no one will find it." It also said everything it killed and destroyed would be back to normal. Everyone it killed would return and everything that had happened would be forgotten. Yet, you will not forget. It was 4pm and the sun set at 5pm. We started to plan how to catch it. We decided we would pin it in the barn and put it in a stall. Then, we would let it starve so it would shrink. Next, we would vacuum it into the jar. After that we would bury the jar deep in the woods. We decided to take it to a National Forest in Alabama, but if we do not have it gone by sunrise it will live. It took us 45 minutes to hike into the woods. We searched for the perfect spot to bury the jar. It needed to be hidden well enough to prevent this from ever happening again. We spotted a deep crevice in a rock formation. It was the perfect spot to bury the jar. We pushed the jar as far into the crevice as we could reach and then began filling the empty space with dirt, rocks, and other debris. Thankfully, we got it buried in time. I learned a valuable lesson, the next time I find a mysterious box, I will not open it.
