County Fair

Abstract

A new family moved to Jackson County, WV just in time for the County Fair. The fair had been mentioned to them multiple times, so they had dcided to go see what all the fuss was all about. Being from a big city they had not experienced a livestock fair before. When they arived there was plenty to see from stands of vegetables, purses, toys, jewelry, t-shirts, to the best little chocolate donuts and even apple dumplings. While enjoying the delicious snacks they we interrupted by the noises of the many barns. They were pleased to see rows and rows of hogs, heifers, lambs, rabbits, chickens, and lambs. They had never seen so many farm animals in one location. They learned that the Jackson County Fair has the largest livestock sale in the state. They loved the furry bunnies with the bobbing noses, but of all they lked the pigs in the pens that were neat and clean. They were surprised that they pigs were so friendly and willing to let them pet them. they were in awe of the size of the steers up cose and how gentle they were, and the size of he kids who were handling them. The Jackson County Fair is a Junior Fair so the exhibitors are all children. As they walked past the barns they were drawn to a large tent. The tent belonged to a petting zoo! They had animals you don't get to see everyday such as kangaroos, lamas, camels, snakes, and even porcupines. They learned that porcupines don't actually shoot their quills at you. With so many animals they could pet and feed they spent a great deal of time at the petting zoo where they even rode a Brama Cow and had their family picture made with the kangaroo. The lights coming from inside the hillside began to draw their attention. As they walked to the top of the hill they noticed the carnival! Kids were screaming, and laughing and they just had to take part. The screamed on the hurrican, were afraid as the cages spun upside down, stuck to the wall of the roundup and even goa little dizzy on the scrambler. When the excitement of all the rides wore off they played a few games where they won a gold fish. The perfect addition to their new home in the country. They decided to hae a seat so walked over the hill to have a seat on the grass. The bands were beginning to play and the music was load and inviting. The kids began to dance while their parents sang along and clapped to the music. Several styles of music were performed and enjoyed by all. They met o many nice people who welcomed them to the area this was the perfect day in their new town. The family had so much fun that first day that they came back to the fair day after day. Each day they met new friends, tried new foods, listened to great music, and watched lots of exciting things such as the demolition derby and the truck pulls over the hill. As they left that final evening of the fair the litle girl looked up at her family and said: "One day I want to be the Queen of this fair because I think it is the most perfect place on earth." Who knows and one day se may be the Queen of the fair. For now the family is already making plans for the fair next year, in their new home, with their new friends.
