Description

Contradictions

Abstract

Contradictions
Billowing smoke stacks stand on the rivers edge
Reaching hollow arms up to the sky
White powder smoke pollutes the air.
But warms my heart
As cotton candy clouds roll and form,
Filling up the sky
Bright daffodils in springtime,
As you drive around the bend
Beautiful scenery in Autumn
Rolling mountains that never seem to end
Pot holes in the pavement
There’s no sidewalk here
Broken guard rails and speeding semi trucks
Out of nowhere ^pear
Curving back roads
No high ways for us
Flying over hills, around farms
Speed limits are a suggestion
Watching the sunset over fields of cows eating grass
West Virginia is filled with contradictions.
Charleston is beautifiil. Modem.
People bustle to work
A golden dome sits upon our capital
Showing wealth and superiority
Wheeling is filled with the homeless. Dirty.
The people on the street don’t bustle to work
They live there.
There is little wealth and superiority
West Virginia: beautiful, yet damaged
Mountains and scenery bring people fiem all around
So do the coal mines and oil rigs
West Virginia is filled with contradictions.
