The Stonecutter's Adventure

Abstract

Chapter 1: Into the Wild
In 1866, in southern England, in a tiny cabin on the top of a mountain lived a poor stonecutter named Matthew Bush. And that man, was me.
Down at the bottom of the mountain, there was a small town called Bearville, because there were so many bears there. Then one warm Sunday in spring, I was cutting stones into bricks when I looked at my watch. "Zounds!" I said. "It's time to go!"
Oh, Yeah, I own a shop in the town and I hired a guy to sell the bricks, and every time I come down I buy food and we split the money evenly. Then I put all the bricks I have in the shop, then leave. Well, I was loading up my wagon with bricks when I took off for the town. About a mile down the mountain, a bear attacked.
The bear ate my horse while I ran into the woods. Little did I know how long I would be in those woods. I had wandered around for about seven hours, it was getting dark. I was hungry, thirsty and tired. I took a drink from a river, at some berries, and crawled into a hollow log and went to sleep. When I woke up, I thought, "Boy, what a dream!" Then I felt a little uncomfortable, I opened my eyes, then I noticed, it wasn't a dream at alll I was in a hollow log in the middle of the woods. I thought, I must till be dreaming! Then I walked into a thorn bush. OW! You can't feel pain in dreams, I thought. Then I saw the bear that ate my horse, still hungry! Chapter 2: The Bears
I tied a sharp rock to a stick to make a spear. The bear ran towards me, I threw my spear. lt pierced right through the bear's heart! With a sharp rock, I butchered the bear, and the meat from it lasted a few days.
When the meat was gone, a few days passed before I heard noises in the shrubs that surrounded me. I clutched my spear, ready to face any danger. Countless bears surrounded me. I held my spear high.
The bears ran towards me, I stabbed every bear that came hear me. There was one bear, though, that stayed a great distance from me. I threw my spear and missed! I ran to get my spear, but when I came cose the bear attacked!
"Get off of me!" I yelled. I reached from my spear, but the bear stopped my hand. I then pushed the bear off me, then I grabbed my spear and killed the bear. I then butchered the bear, built a stick shelter, and made the bear's skin into a sleeping bag. I did not sleep well that night. I dreamed of bears attacking me. Vultures ate all but three of the bears. The remaining meat lasted me ten days. One day I thought, "I'm going to get home as soon as possible. Besides, all I have eaten in seventeen days in bear meat and wild strawberries!" The next day I got my sleeping bag and spear then took off!
Chapter 3: The Avalanche
I had been walking around for hours, eating any plant I could get my hands on. Then, I heard a noise, I turned around only to see an avalanche of boulders! I sprinted down the mountain as fast as I could! One was right behind me! I was going to get squashed flat if I didn't get out of the way. Dust flew everywhere making it hard to see and breathe I I coughed like mad as I yelled for help. I came to a trench and through I was doomed!
Fortunately, I saw a vine and swung to the other side. My old hat fell in as I swung across the deep trench. All the boulders fell in the trench. Somehow, I still had my sleeping bag and spear. By then it was so dark so I put down my sleeping bag and went to sleep. A storm cloud approached overhead. Chapter 4: The Storm
I had just gone to sleep when I felt a drop of water on my nose. I felt more and more and more until the rain was really coming down. I got my head in my sleeping bag. I heard thunder! Then lightning hit the eround not far from my sleeping bag!
I had a pouch when I got lost. I had filled it with wild strawberries. I grabbed it, my spear and my sleeping bag and took off tunning! "Find shelter! Find shelter!" I told myself. At least 10 strikes of lightning hit the ground within 100 yards from me. The rain was pouring down, hard. I sprinted toward a cave in a hill. I was soaked and cold. Then I noticed, just a mile behind the hill was a town. But it was too risky in this weather. So I ran to the cave, at strawberries and went to sleep. The next morning it was sunny and green.
Chapter 5: Farewell Forest
I got out of my sleeping bag, got my things, and walked out of the cave. I started walking around the hill when beautiful shrubs and flowers surrounded me. The bees buzzed; the birds sang. A squirrel climbed down a tree and sniffed at me. "Sorry young fellow, for I do not have any food!" The squired went to the ground at the leftovers of his winter stockings. I continued walking to the town. When I got there, a man who heard I was lost gave me a cart and a horse to pull the cart. I rode to my shop in the next town. When I got there, I found my partner. "Was I a little late?"
